No news is good news
My 96 year old great aunt lives with her two Siamese cats, looks after her Japanese style garden and drives her buggy to buy her groceries in the village where she lives. Recently she hasn't felt very well and has spent much of the day in bed. She cannot bear to listen to the news as it's so depressing and she's convinced there's a national policy to make us all miserable. She thinks there should be a limit of three pieces of bad news per bulletin.

After the 'market manipulation' news, she may well be right...
When you think about it, she was born in 1914, so probably can't remember WW1, but certainly will remember the desperate 20's 30's and WW2 - and she thinks the news now is more depresssing than those times? Actually I agree with her. Despite the disasters at every turn, we were optimistic and believed there would be better times ahead. But I don't think anyone thinks that anymore.
My great-uncle used to read the news for Pathe during WW2 (he'd served in WW1) which made him very depressed. They moved to Spain for nearly 30 years and were revived by the sunshine and warmth of the people
She may have a point there!
Wouldn't it be lovely if all news was"good news."
Maybe she should just read some good books instead. A few romantic adventures should bring a smile to her face.

good news is no news.. Watch this..
Sterling is getting stronger.. This is disastrous news for exporters who will not be able to compete for custom overseas, will ruin what is left of our manufacturing base, will hoover in more exports, buggering up our trade deficit, leading to riots in the streets and possibly plagues of locusts and it may be raining frogs a bit too..

The country is going to hell in a handcart, the government is taking the soft option by devaluing our currency, and by implication the country and its people.. Fuel and gas will be getting dearer, food inflation will be subject to price hikes, causing people to go cold and hungry, and possible famine, war and pestilence across the land.
There is a whole book to be written about why and in whose interests we are being kept depressed and in fear, but a good example of it was shown in the 'hit and run' on HBOS shares this week. There is no cash in good news, but much profitable business can be made from bad news.
