Go before you go

A novel approach to reducing aviation CO2 emissions from All Nippon Airways in Japan…. The airline is appointing ‘loo monitors’ (yes, really) to ask its passengers to use the loo before boarding – the idea being that this will lead to lighter passengers and so a reduction in carbon emissions. Sniggering aside, ANA believes the measure could lead to a 5-tonne reduction in carbon emissions over the course of a month. October is a trial month for the scheme – and the airline says it will continue with it if it is successful and well-received by passengers. Never one to pass up an opportunity to shave off a bit more cost, Ryanair is looking at doing something along these lines – only a bit more drastic; they are considering removing 2 of the loos on board and replacing them with one coin-operated one to incentivise passengers to ‘go’ in the terminal before building.

Good grief - how mean can they get? Just watch out for gippy tummy courtesy of airport grub and just one bog - the stewards will be up for lynching just becasue the passengers can't get their hands on the management.

For those of us who enjoy an occasional glass of the amber nectar while waiting to board this is the best advert for British Airways imagineable. I just know I'd have a pocket full of 50p's and no £1's!

Whereas BA is offering a very British answer to the same issue with no publicity whatsoever. They offer tap water to all non suspecting customers at the check in desk. They follow it up with an extended walk and wait of 65 minutes to clear security. Than they invite you for a 20 minute walk to the gate. Once there, they announce a 30 minute delay on your flight and let you listen to waterfall music. Of course he and most often she has to use the facilities where a newly installed gleaming toilet with a dyson vacum pump awaits the unsuspecting customer, Trust me it all gets sucked out with an amazing efficiency. Fly the friendly skies and get a collonic irrigation for free.OH and btw those over 100kg have to buy 2 seats from December onwards. Go go BA!!!
