The Ides of March

I am remembering Julius Caesar who was murdered on this day in 44BC. Dante placed Brutus and Cassius in his lowest level of Hell, their feet in the jaws of Lucifer. Only Judas Iscariot suffers worse treatment: his head is inside Lucifer's mouth whilst his back is skinned by the devil's claws.

It turned out even worse than Dante expected - the actual site of the murder is nowadays situated underneath the floor of a rather poor pizza restaurant in a malodorous alleyway off Pza. Argentaria. Could be worse 'naughty' vestal virgins were entombed alive in a chamber under what is now the entrance of the Ministry of Finance. I wonder if Sgr.Draghi ever thinks of them as he goes to his office?

He was, of course, told to "Beware the Ides of March"
As it happens, this is Mrs. Lear's birthday.
I should have been told the same thing...
The message, of course, is that you should never trust even your most trusted friend - Machiavelli could have helped him there.
Interestingly, the Romans played around with the length of the months. They liked July and August, so added a couple of extra days, but nobody liked February (if you've ever been in Rome or Milan in February you will know why) so they lopped a few off to make it only 28 days long

BTW I watched " Heaven can wait " again the other day - where an old philanderer is NOT taken into Hell, because he " really really" loved his wife, and she and all sorts of others who had gone to heaven pleaded for him.
It rather looks as though you can be a thoroughly OK guy for heavenprovided your kind to children and animals...
