Methuselah

We had a reunion party in Cambridge at the weekend which seemed an appropriate occasion to open the Methuselah of Chateau Nozieres which I'd bought in Cahors in 1989. It was well received and a friend asked if she could give the bottle to her son. Here it is in his bedroom.

People are always telling me that the larger bottles of red wine ( and champagne) taste better than the normal size of the same vintage and chateau etc etc. I'm not at all convinced. What do you think?

Sadly I didn't have any single bottles as a comparison but I share your scepticism.

Perhaps conviviality enhances the taste of wine. With a larger bottle one may simply be in a more convivial environment ? Cahors - A reminder to potter up to Le Balandre and Chateau de Mercues now the tourists have gone . 'The font' wants to know what the secret is for maintaining such a tidy male bedroom !

I always think it is better to finish a bottle once it has been opened to avoid oxydation regardless of the size of the bottle.

I'm reminded of Nigella's throw away line " I always freeze any leftover wine in cubes as it's awfully useful for adding to dishes"
What leftover wine?
